Print: Bedroom Chair

This print depicts a chair I found in an abandoned house in Gurnee. This house was one of the messiest I have ever been in. You could barely see the floor with the clothes, toys, and other crap all over the place. Most houses I go into are pretty empty; it's always way more interesting when there's stuff everywhere. It really helps give the home a sense of history, and more of a hint as to what kind of people once lived there.

I made this print using my Mamiya C330 with an 80mm lens and Kodak Tmax 400 film. The pysical print is 11x14 inches.

  1. Where is this located? I know it's off highway 132, but I can't seem to find it. I want to go and take pictures

  2. Hi Chelsea,

It's on 132, just about a quarter of a mile west of 45. It's very easy to miss because of all the trees!

Do you know of any other abandoned locations around Gurnee? I'm always looking for new places to explore and photograph.

    Thanks!

  3. Would it be on the left or right? I do not know of abandoned houses or buildings but I do know an abandoned gate in Libertyville at one of the bike paths. It's referred to as Devils Gate.

  4. If you're headed west on 132, it'll be on the right. It's a pretty small house.

  5. Is it surrounded by a few other houses? I'm looking it up on Maps right now and I think I found it, just a few other houses around it

  6. Also did you have to get permission to go to it?

  7. You can try asking for permission, but I don't know who you would ask. There aren't any "no trespassing" signs anywhere. If you go during the day and are clearly there to just photograph stuff, you're probably fine. Just please, BE CAREFUL. You never know what, or who, might be in the house already. Make sure to make your presence known when you enter, and bring a friend if you can.

  8. I ended up going today. I was not able to read your reply before I got to the house. I had no problem at all, just when I was leaving my leg went through the floor near the door that leads out to the basement. I got out very quickly was not injured. I was wearing boots.

  10. I passed a house today on route 120. There was a large abandoned house and abandoned barn. There was a no trespassing sign. It I'm sure you can just call the village and ask or just take pictures of the outside. I dropped a pin on it with maps and the address was 400 Curran Rd
    Round Lake, IL 60073
    United States
